Roof-A-Cide Roof Treatment

Roof-A-Cide is a preventive treatment, not a cleaning. Applied to a clean roof, it stops the algae and lichen that cause black streaking from re-establishing — so the roof stays clean without repeated pressure washing that shortens its life.

Who this is for

Owners of tile and shingle roofs anywhere from Miami to West Palm Beach, which is to say almost everyone: the warm, humid climate here makes roof algae a matter of when, not if. It is particularly worth doing on roofs that have just been cleaned, on properties under HOA rules about roof appearance, and on any roof where the alternative is a pressure-washing cycle every couple of years — repeated high-pressure washing removes shingle granules and cracks tile, and it is one of the fastest ways to age a roof prematurely.

What's included

  • Roof inspection to confirm the surface is suitable and clean enough to treat
  • Soft washing or cleaning first where existing growth needs removing
  • Roof-A-Cide applied by an authorized applicator to manufacturer specification
  • Landscaping, pool cages, screens and driveways protected during application
  • Treatment of tile, shingle, metal and flat roof surfaces as applicable
  • Written record of the application date for your maintenance file

Our process for Roof-A-Cide

  1. Inspect the roof

We check the roof type, its condition and how much growth is present, and confirm from the ground and up close whether it needs cleaning before treatment.

  2. Clean if needed

Roof-A-Cide is preventive, so an already-stained roof is soft washed first. Existing growth has to be dealt with before a preventive treatment can keep it away.

  3. Protect and apply

Landscaping, screens and hard surfaces are protected, then the treatment is applied evenly across the roof surface to the manufacturer's specification.

  4. Record and schedule

We record the application date and tell you when the roof is due to be looked at again, so the treatment interval does not get forgotten.

Questions about this service

What is Roof-A-Cide?

Roof-A-Cide is a preventive roof treatment that stops algae, mold and lichen from re-establishing on a roof surface. It is applied to a clean roof and keeps it clean, rather than removing staining that is already there.

Will Roof-A-Cide remove the black streaks on my roof now?

No — it is preventive, so existing staining has to be cleaned off first. We soft wash the roof, let it come clean, and then apply the treatment so the growth does not come back.

Is it safe for my roof, plants and pets?

It is applied at low pressure with landscaping and hard surfaces protected, and it is used on tile, shingle and metal roofs across Florida. We follow the manufacturer's application instructions as an authorized applicator, and we can share the product's safety information on request.

How often does it need to be reapplied?

On a periodic cycle rather than continuously — the exact interval depends on your roof type, how much shade and tree cover it has, and how close you are to the water. We record each application date and tell you when the roof should next be inspected.

Why not just pressure wash the roof every few years?

Because repeated high-pressure washing damages the roof. It strips granules from shingles, cracks and dislodges tile, and can force water under the covering. A preventive treatment keeps the roof clean without that cycle of damage.

Which roof types can be treated?

Tile, shingle, metal and flat roof surfaces are all commonly treated. We confirm suitability during the roof inspection before quoting the work.
